Anne Martin grew up in a family that created drawings and paintings for pleasure. Largely self-taught, Anne became involved in serious illustrations by creating many biological line-drawings for her husband’s book ‘Primate Origins’, published by Princeton University Press.
Anne subsequently received commissions from other publishers, including Cambridge University Press and Duckworth to produce line-drawings for text illustrations and book covers. Eventually, Anne moved on to painting water colours, mainly for pleasure but occasionally for sale. She had one solo exhibition in Zürich (Switzerland), where she sold many paintings, and for several years produced paintings for sale by an art shop in Zürich.
Anne’s previous experience with making line-drawings for biological topics influenced her style for painting aquarelles. Unusually, rather than letting the colours flow, she uses precise brushwork to render detailed images.
